How to run a badminton tournament
Badminton tournaments are normally split into events such as men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles, often with age categories. That is a lot of matches for a few courts.
Knockout and double elimination
Single elimination is fastest. Double elimination lets players stay in after one loss, which works well for club and open events.
Groups, then knockout
Players play a round robin inside their group, and the top players move into a knockout bracket.
Round robin
Every player or pair plays every other one. Good for small events and leagues.
Team tie format (Team Play)
For team events, two teams meet in a tie made up of several matches, such as men's singles, women's singles and doubles. This is the structure used in team events like the Sudirman Cup. Team Play is available on PRO plans.
